Untill 1962 Ivano-Frankovsk was called Stanislav, and the area — Stanislavsky. The city was founded in 1662 by crowned hetman Andrzey Pototsky and was named in honor of his father, the great crowned hetman Stanislav “Revera” Pototsky.

Reflexion of idea of baroque epoch about «an ideal city» was found in architecture of Ivano-Frankovsk, embodied in planning of the central part of a city, its streets, temples. For originality of architecture a city sometimes is named “small Lvov”.
