The million-population city of Odessa occupies 4th place in Ukraine on number of inhabitants: 1 010 000 people for 2010
The was founded by Catherine II in 1794 year. But the first settlement on a place of present Odessa was the Ancient Greek colony, remains of which are found out directly near Primorskiy parkway and today are open for visitors. In the early Middle Ages the territory of present Odessa was in possession of Pechenegs, Polovetses, Golden Horde, the Crimean khanate, the Great princedom Lithuanian and Ottoman empire.
